FLY FISHING

THE BUFFALO RIVER

The Buffalo River is the highest drainage in the Jackson Hole area and drains much of the area around Togwotee Pass. No matter what kind of runoff year the area has, the Buffalo will be the last to clear. Although there is a fair amount of private land bordering the Buffalo, there is some really great fishing for the angler who wishes to go for a good hike.

One of the best hikes is from the trailhead nearby Turpin Meadows Ranch. This hike takes you as far back as you wish to go and into some really beautiful country. Since this is bear country, be sure to have your bear spray. Because the river drains such a high area, it fishes best in the afternoon. Popular flies include Parachute Adams and Parachute Hopper.
