The gin clear waters of Lewis Lake provide some excellent flyfishing for both Brown Trout and Mackinaw during much of the summer and late in the fall. We begin guiding on this lake just as soon as the ice comes off the lake after Memorial Day weekend. Both fly and spin fishing work very well on this lake and we are happy to guide both types of fishermen.
Fly fishermen will be best suited with a 9 foot 6 weight rod for dealing with the often windy conditions of Lewis Lake. Generally a full sinking line is best, because you will likely be trolling your flies along the drop-offs and submerged bars.
However, Lewis is not just a wet fly affair. Beginning in July, if the conditions are right, there is a good Callibaetis hatch and fly fishermen can cast these large flies to cruising trout much like stalking a cruising bonefish.
Sometimes we will fish both Lewis and Yellowstone Lakes in a single day. This mostly depends on the weather and the timing factor, but can provide a truly great day fishing for a variety of fish. Come join us for some of this truly great lake fishing in a pristine environment. All our trips include lunch, transportation, park entrance and any loan equipment that is needed. You will just need to get a fishing license and a few flies or lures.
At 280 square miles, Yellowstone Lake is North America’s largest mountain lake and also boasts the world’s largest population of inland Cutthroat trout. When the lake opens to fishing on June 15th, we begin guiding both fly and spin fishermen.
This is an extremely productive lake in which most of the fish you catch are between 14 -18 inches and the average tends to be about 16 inches. Both wets and dry flies work on this lake and which you use will depend on the time of the year and hatches. Sometimes we troll wet flies and other times we anchor and cast from a stationary boat. If conditions are right we will cast a dry fly to a cruising trout; this is much like stalking a bonefish on the flats.
Spin fishing also works very well on Yellowstone Lake and we are happy to take spin fishermen. We use ultralight rigs with 6 - 8 pound line. If you don't wish to bring rods with you we will be happy to supply you with a loan one.
All our fishing is done from one of our comfortable guide boats. Lunch, transportation, park entrance and loan equipment are included in the price. You will just need to get a few flies or lures and you're set to go. We begin guiding fly fishermen on the Yellowstone Lake starting opening day, June 15.
For all the guided trips above we recommend bringing waders, rain gear and ample warm clothing. The weather in Yellowstone can be quite variable and some of the best fishing can be found on overcast and cool days. Generally your guide will meet you at our in downtown Jackson, but other arrangements can be made. All our trips include lunch, transportation, beverages, park entrance and any loan rods. You’ll just need to get a few flies, leaders and a Yellowstone fishing license (a Wyoming license is no good in Yellowstone Park).
