Jack Dennis Fly Fishing Guides

In the fly fishing business, there are those who merely take you to places where there are fishing opportunities. In your fly fishing experience you may have met young men and women anointed as "guides" who truly do not understand what determines or defines "guiding" and what constitutes the total fly fishing experience. Simply rowing a boat down river or taking a stroll along a river bank does not graduate one into the fraternity of experts and professionals or those uniquely deserving praise and notoriety. The infrequent fly fisherman has no idea or benchmark when the day has ended if he truly had a totally encompassing experience, not just nets full of fish.

At Jack Dennis Fishing Trips, we know the difference and in one word, we honestly care if you have a memorable day of fishing. We are the local fly fishing specialists for Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the Snake, Green and South Fork Rivers. When it comes to cutthroat, rainbow and brown trout, we are beyond compare when it is time to deliver a great day on the river.

Our fly fishing guides are masters at handling, steering and maneuvering their boat. There will be scant occasions when the boat will be out of position and more typically you will find yourself in the most advantageous position and angle to produce the most accurate and productive casts. A Jack Dennis fly fishing guide is knowledgeable and refuses to quit working hard for his client, even when it appears the fishing maybe "off" albeit momentarily. Our guides will be disappointed if they guided in any other way or fashion.

Bruce James

Bruce spent his youth in Phoenix Arizona, where he received a degree in Geology. During his college days he spent his summers exploring the fishing of Colorado where he developed a strong afinity for hiking into small creeks. After spending a couple years and an exploration geologist, Bruce came to Jackson for a change of life and has been here since 1975 working for Jack Dennis.

Before accepting the position as fly fishing guide manager, Bruce paid his dues as a professional guide for many years on Jackson Hole's world renowned waters, including the Snake River, Green, South Fork and numerous waters in Yellowstone Park. As have many others before him, he discovered that the fly fishing opportunities are endless and the challenges to the angler, never ending in the Jackson Hole area.

Bruce spends every available free minute, whether on a day off or vacation, fishing Jackson Hole's rivers and streams, or for that matter, any place their are leaping fish throughout the western USA. Although he sometimes fishes from a boat, his true passion has evolved into fishing small streams and creeks.

Scott Smith

Scott came to Jackson Hole from Woodstock, Georgia a number of years ago. A fisheries biologist by training, Scott has the talent to show you the world of fly fishing. Scott is our head guide; we not only use Scott on the river but also have him do fly fishing seminars.

After working in the fishing department, teaching casting lessons, taking fly fishermen on walk-in trips, and guiding on float fishing rivers like the Snake and Green, few fly fishing guides have such a depth of knowledge of the world of the trout and how to guide. Scott loves to fly fish for Snake River cutthroat, brown, cuttbow and rainbow trout.

Dave Smith

View Guide Images

Dave grew up fishing small streams and beaver ponds with his grandparents in the Adirondaks. This is where he first fell in love with fly fishing and the outdoors. After high school he found a small college in Gunnison CO and started to get a taste for big fish in big rivers.

The move to Jackson introduced him to drift boats; the better he got at rowing the more phone calls he got to go fishing. It was shortly after that when Dave bought a boat of his own and started working for a guide service that operates out of Teton Village. Dave joined us over 2 years ago and now he spends over 100 days a year floating down the many rivers of the Western U.S.

Dave has the savvy and river expertise you are looking for. You make the plans and we will take care of the rest - it's that simple.

Weldon Jones

View Guide Images

Weldon Jones was born in North Carolina and began fishing at a young age in the trout streams of Appalachia and eventually developed a passion for saltwater fly fishing in the Outer Banks off the coast of North Carolina. Fishing trips to Jackson progressively lured him out west. After working for a while at our fly shop, taking people on walk-in trips and casting lessons, Weldon expressed a desire to join our guide operation.

We welcome Weldon to the guide operation. With his experience in casting instruction and walk-in fishing trips we feel he will be an asset to the guide operation. And, of course, he has had extensive training on float fishing. Check out his web site.
